Tina Keng Gallery is pleased to present aselectionof works byXiaobai Su, Chiang Yomei, Peng Wei, and Tu Wei-Cheng for the 2015 ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair.Together Xiaobai Su's lacquer work, Chiang Yomei's mixed-media paintings, Peng Wei's new ink, and Tu Wei-Cheng's quasiantique installation embody the contemporary aesthetics that shape Tina Keng Gallery's vision.
Five lacquer paintings of Su, characterized by solid color blocks, rich texture, and raw form, exude a rigorous sensuality. Complex brushstrokes dripping with color inform Chiang Yomei's latest series Of Heaven and Earth (2015) and Bardo (2014–2015) series, where shimmering earthy palettes contrast with a densely textured surface, in her contemplation on life and death of all sentient beings and the meaning of emptiness.
Peng Wei’s Shoeseries and Shan-Yuanseries evoke a sense of grace and leisure in between classic aesthetics of the literati painting and contemporary living. Tu Wei-Cheng's pleasure of mimicking ancient artifacts with a modern twist is manifest in his Animated Chest(2012), a quasiantique cabinet in Qing dynasty style that displays digital imagery of urban landscape, teeming with a sense of ridicule and humor that belongs solely to the artist.
