The 9th edition of Art Changsha 2024, themed "Spirit Everywhere," celebrating the universal presence of inspiration in everything with an open and diverse perspective. The word "everywhere" also refers to the various materials, as from the emotional and poetic richness of traditional Chinese ceramics, silk, and ink painting to the modern spirit of contemporary sculpture, installation, and video.
Peng Wei: Seven Days, curated by Cui Cancan at the Changsha Art Museum Exhibition Area, interweaving time and space from a female perspective. It reflects and intertextually explores the destinies of women across different generations, or narrating various stories from Peng Wei's daily life. Her storytelling is inspired by Dunhuang murals and Italian church frescoes, combining the culture of Eastern and Western such as scrolls, long shots, screens, and Icon. Peng Wei also overlays spaces, developing architecture in her paintings akin to the relationships between murals, caves, churches, and pagodas. Stories unfold in various settings: windowsills, corridors, rooftops, grand halls, courtyards, pavilions, and high towers. She constructs a city of women, creating a new social order through her stories.
