The seventh edition of the Personal Structures, organized by the European Cultural Centre(ECC), will be held simultaneously with the Venice Biennale 2024. These works of internationally renowned artists from various fields will be displayed in the exhibition, communicating from the artists' perspectives on personal and social cultural. Yao Jui-Chung will present his video work Republic of Cynic: 1989 in the exhibition, filmed at Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab in 2020. The work re-enacts the most well-known view of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Incident, a man obstructed tanks. The four inflatable models of Type 59 tank in this work were made in and delivered from China to Yao. It deconstructs the highly loaded, almost stereotypical, historical significance embedded in the original image through absurd, nihilist game-playing.
