Ink Subversion: Through Gender Lenses

The exhibition works by Peng Wei and six artists from the Academy of Visual Arts at HKBU, exploring ways to intervene in the tradition of Chinese ink art through the lenses of gender, and subverting tradition with tradition itself.
The exhibition shows Peng Wei's latest body installation with Chinese calligraphy, ink paintings, and ink animations, which reflect on the issues of female subjectivity, female virtue, gender and power relations in China's historical and contemporary contexts.

The proposed panel discussion at the Exchange Circle features Peng Wei, in discussion with the parallel exhibition’s curator Dr Yizhou Wang and the project co-ordinator Dr Evelyn Kwok. The discussions aims to be a lively and casual conversation between the three, moderated by Dr Evelyn Kwok. It aims to highlight the works in the parallel exhibition, the concepts behind its curation, as well as questions on gender and ink artists, and the intersected subject and material matters.
